So far in our popular Rome to Rio series we’ve covered Italy, France and Spain. Today, we’re moving from Spain via sea, northwards to our very own little island. Before rushing inland however, we’ll be taking a break at the wonderful British coast and seeing how you can bring a bit of seaside fun into your home. Note, bringing a real seagull inside is not advised!

I do like to be beside the seaside

Sure, many people will often think of the beaches in the Caribbean, Bali, or California; but for millions of us, little can beat long walks on the strips of sand that separate flashing slot machines from the icy sea. Throw in some fish and chips followed by a 99 and you have all the ingredients for a perfect trip to the seaside.

Focusing in on Yorkshire – because let’s face it, it’s the best 11,903 km² anywhere in the world – you may not know that the quaint seaside town of Filey was recently named one of the top twenty beaches in Europe during the annual Tripadvisor Travellers Choice Awards.

Bring the coast to your home through seaside fabrics

We’re well aware of floral fabrics and the modern twist using fruit and vegetables, but what about British seaside fabrics? Do such things exist and how do you use them?

In short, the answer is yes, they are fabulous and they’re very easy to use!

Being at the coast is all about escapism and fun and the seaside fabrics available at Blinds Direct reflect those feelings perfectly. Whether you want a blind that features fun cartoon beach huts, lighthouses, or even *images of* seagulls, we have you covered.

Such fabrics are perfect, naturally, for seaside accommodation be it a B&B or home, but also perfectly usable further inland. Whether you’re looking for a blind for a south facing kitchen window, a kid’s bedroom, or just some fun cushions, you can bring the excitement and energy of the Great British seaside into your home.

Most seaside-themed blinds tend to have a strong blue presence which is additionally helpful because this cooling colour helps us find peace and works well with a host of different colours.

Seaside Shutters

Shutters often conjure up a feeling of coastal charm. Their strong features make us feel safe from the storms while their angled slats will let the sun in once it shows its face.

Especially in a white wood, shutters are a great way to bring a nautical nuance into your home.

At Blinds Direct, we have a fantastic selection of shutters available to order, to your exact measurements. We use only the finest materials, and our talented teams work to the highest standards. Learn more about wooden shutter blinds on the website.

Avast range of blues to consider

If you’re looking to seize Poseidon’s trident and bring the power of the sea into your home, it’s not a cliché to look at different tones of blue.

As mentioned above, blue is a very calming colour and the myriad hues available can really add a touch of excitement to a space. Aquamarine blue and even the bluish tones of a sea-foam green colour can celebrate the sea in a slightly more subtle way than the more thematic illustrated blinds.

These colours are perfect for spaces including bedrooms and living rooms alike whether you like on the Cornish coast or at the highest point of the Pennines.
