If you’re decorating your little one’s bedroom, why not experiment with something new? Kids’ rooms are the perfect opportunity to get creative, styling up a cool yet playful space that expresses their personality.

Ideas for kids’ bedrooms

Don’t feel constrained by ‘blue for boys and pink for girls’. Nowadays, gender neutral styling is all the rage, creating a room that showcases your little one’s uniqueness without tying them to stereotypes. One of the best ways to achieve this look is with neutral tones, including warm white, light grey and soft sage. These colours provide the perfect base for injecting a little more brightness; consider pops of mustard, lime, peach and teal, with darker or more vibrant touches for statement accents.

For shapes and prints, try something bold and leafy for an exotic jungle vibe. Bugs and birds are another great choice, especially if your child is animal-mad. An older child might prefer geometric patterns – something a bit more ‘grown up’. You could suggest a marble or terrazzo print, which are the perfect options for fashion-conscious preteens. These statement pieces work brilliantly as bed spreads, rugs, cushions and window dressings, creating interest against an otherwise neutral palette.

When it comes to dressing your little one’s window, we’d always recommend the same blinds that we suggest for nurseries, including easy wipe rollers, curtains and Roman blinds. As always, safety is paramount and any blinds with cords or chains must be installed with a child safety device. For an older child, you might also want to consider wooden blinds or shutters, which create a more grown-up feeling. These window treatments can also be layered for a full and textured look, perfect for bringing personality to the space.
