Ever since lockdown, our homes have increasingly become sanctuaries of calm, peace and cosiness. As a result, it’s no surprise that as the UK becomes colder and we look to thick jumpers and hearty casseroles we are today looking at Comfortcore. In terms of Comfortcore in interior design, this lovely style focuses on the cosy, snug side of things and today, we’ll be exploring how you can enjoy it in your home.

What is Comfortcore?

In the realm of interior design, Comfortcore has emerged as a transformative element, redefining the way spaces can be experienced and enjoyed. This theme seamlessly integrates into furniture pieces, accessories and window coverings to become a cornerstone for ergonomic design and luxurious comfort. Whether incorporated into plush sofas, luxurious soft bedding or high quality curtains and blinds, Comfortcore ensures that functionality and aesthetics converge harmoniously. The result is an inviting and cosy environment where you can unwind, fostering a sense of well-being within the confines of your home. With Christmas on the horizon, and with guests looking to escape the chill and some seasonal good cheer, these are some easy steps which you can follow to enjoy all the benefits of Comfortcore this winter!

Layer your windows

Cosiness is at the heart of Comfortcore, and it’s the perfect state of being for the colder months of the year. Being cosy falls into two categories, the first is being peaceful and calm in the heart, and the second is being nice and warm physically – so what steps can we take to maximise this blissful way of living?

Well, the simple step of layering your window is a great starting point. When layering a window, it enriches the depth of a room in a similar way to using chunky, soft chairs and sofas. It contributes to a sense of comfortable cocooning that helps to calm the mind. While you can pair curtains with roller blinds for a chic, slimmer layered window, for Comfortcore nothing beats a window layered with heavy curtains and a Roman blinds.

While warming the soul, layered windows will also help to warm up your earthly person. By adding an extra barrier between the inside of your room and the chilly outdoors, you’ll be cosier than ever – just what you need for a Comfortcore home!

Thermal blinds for Comfortcore

To maximise the thermal comfort of your room, you can make the most of thermal blinds! At Blinds Direct, we have thermal roller blinds and thermal vertical blinds made from special thermal materials available in a great selection of colours and styles and if you’ve been won over by the idea of laying a window with Roman blinds and curtains, you can enjoy a free thermal lining upgrade!

As we’ve discussed, during the winter months there is little better than getting cosy and insulating yourself from the cold. Blinds and curtains with thermal linings are perfect for such a task as they keep heat in during the colder months of the year while in the summer, they keep the heat out. This, in turn, means less energy is needed to keep a space warm which not only saves money, but the environment too!

Comfortcore colours

Beyond the process of keeping cosy and warm, colour also has a fantastic role to play when it comes to Comfortcore. While it’s always important to remember that you should always pick the colours you feel more comfortable with, these are three of our favourite Comfortcore colours.

Blush pink – This is a fabulous colour for Comfortcore homes. This lovely shade captures the ideal intersection between warmth, lightness and positivity. Mixed with a wide range of supporting colours, blush pink furniture, blinds, curtains or smaller accessories – such as cushions and lamp shades – will really make your space pop while feeling even more comfortable.

Neutral shades – Back in March, we explored new neutrals and the array of benefits they offer in interior design. The good news is, they’re ideal choices for Comfortcore interiors.  Warmer shades of off white, rich creams and oatmeal tones all offer a fabulous foundation from white to build your Comfortcore decor upon. You can learn more about these colours in our New Neutrals blog.

Terracotta – Infusing a home with a sun-kissed aura the year round, terracotta is a diverse colour that’s warming, welcoming and wonderful. Moreover, terracotta works tremendously well in layers, toning effectively against other earthy tones, clean whites and dark pink shades. It also lends itself well to textured fabrics! Last month we took a closer look at terracotta colours on the blog which is filled with top tips.

Extra steps for Comfortcore spaces

Beyond layering, thermal fabrics, and comforting colours,  you can follow these extra steps to finalise your Comfortcore home!

Ergonomics: Choose furniture and accessories that prioritise ergonomic design to support the natural movements of the body and reduce physical strain. Comfortable seating and proper lighting are essential components in a Comfortcore space.

Texture and Materials: Opt for soft and inviting textures in furniture and furnishings – textured Roman blinds are a brilliant starting point! Materials like plush fabrics, natural fibres, and cosy blankets can add warmth and tactile comfort to your space.

Balanced Lighting: Create a well-lit environment that combines natural and artificial lighting to establish a harmonious ambiance. Soft, diffused lighting with cosy coloured lampshades can contribute to a relaxing atmosphere.

Comfortcore is more than just a trend; it’s a philosophy that recognises the importance of creating spaces that nurture both the body and the mind. By embracing these principles and incorporating them into your home, you can transform your living space into a haven of comfort and relaxation. After all, a comfortable home is a happy home.
