Five New Year’s Resolutions For Your Home
The new year is almost upon us and with that come resolutions. Where many of us will look at improving our health, spending more time with loved ones or embracing creating hobbies, there is always room to consider some new year’s resolutions for our homes. Today we’ll be looking at five resolutions which you can adopt to better enjoy your home in 2025!

Look at quick fixes to your decor
Peeling wallpaper, scuffed walls and stained blinds can make even the most beautiful of rooms appear unsightly but the good news is that they can be easily fixed or replaced.
Use old paint tins or source a small sample in the patch up any paintwork, wallpaper repair adhesive can stick down any unruly corners and carpets can be washed to refresh them after the Christmas wear-and-tear.
For your blinds and curtains, these can be gently cleaned following the right series of steps, or if needed, you can replace them for less than you may expect! You can learn how to clean different styles of blinds in our guides:
Create a Maintenance Schedule
Planning your home decor updates is a great way to spend your New Year’s resolutions, but keeping your property looking its best all the year round is very important.
Start by listing all the items that will require maintenance throughout the year and categorising them by type, usage, and priority. Use the calendar you were probably gifted for Christmas, or if you’re more high tech, spreadsheet! Flexibility to accommodate unforeseen issues, and periodically review the schedule to incorporate changes is important so be sure to regularly check and update your schedule as required!

Declutter and Organise
Christmas is always a time for clutter. Gifts haven’t quite found their place yet, boxes are piled high and those decorations will sadly have to come down eventually. These are the best ways to declutter your space
- Begin with one small area, like a drawer, a shelf, or a corner, instead of tackling the entire room at once. This approach makes the task manageable and less overwhelming.
- Prepare four boxes labeled keep, donate/sell, bin, and undecided.Touch each item only once and decide its category immediately. The “Undecided” box is only temporary to keep the process flowing, you’ll have to make a decision eventually!
- For each new item, aim to remove something similar. This helps maintain balance and prevents clutter from creeping back in. What’s more, you may be able to recoup some money if you can sell something you’re replacing.
Energy Efficiency Upgrade
In a twin age of eco-consciousness and rising costs, maximising your home’s energy efficiency is a win-win. Data suggest that 18% of a home’s heat loss occurs through windows so ensuring your windows are as efficient as possible means you’ll use less energy which is good for the environment and your bank balance. These are our tips for making your window more energy efficient but for more information, read our Keep The Heat In And Save Energy blog.
Layer your windows with curtains and blinds to maximise the barrier’s effectiveness. Add a free thermal lining to curtains and Roman blinds to add a better barrier between your windows and the cold outdoors. Consider pleated blinds which are specially designed to keep the heat in during the summer, and out during the warmer summer months.

Blend the outdoors with the outdoors
While it’s currently very cold and wintery, spring will be here soon. With the promise of gardens in bloom, the transition from home to garden is a great way to prepare your home for the nicer months to come.
Upgrading your patio doors with floating panel blinds or vertical blind will let you enjoy privacy with your doors open, while you can even walk through Illusion blinds as they don’t have a bottom chain. This is also good for any pets you may have!
For the best finish, make sure you add plenty of luscious greenery around your patio door to gradually merge the indoors and outdoors together.
With 2025 on the door step, all that remains is to wish all our lovely customers and readers a very happy and peaceful start to the New Year!
