Energising, uplifting and bursting with attitude, fuchsia pink is a confident colour that’s seeing a huge resurgence this season. We’re going to explore this sensational shade and explain the best ways to incorporate it into your home…

About the colour fuchsia pink

Fuchsia is a fun-filled and provocative version of pink, often considered more mature and sensual than its sisters (including berry, pastel and baby pink). In colour psychology, fuchsia is thought to suggest assertiveness and confidence with a touch of feminine charm. It’s no surprise that it is the favoured shade amongst female-focused brands like Cosmopolitan magazine, Victoria’s Secret, Sex and the City and Barbie. However, this doesn’t mean that fuchsia is strictly for girls.

Fuchsia is named after the fuchsia plant, an ode to the German botanist Leonhart Fuchs. It sits between pink and purple on the colour wheel, which explains why there are often disagreements about the colour. But whether you consider it to be a pinkish purple or a purplish pink, this vivid colour is a great option for bringing vibrance and personality into your home.

How to use fuchsia pink in your home

Fuchsia is a natural when it comes to grabbing attention. With its confidence and character, this eye-catching shade is now breaking stereotypes, occurring in a variety of settings throughout the home, not just those that would be previously deemed as feminine.

There are many ways to incorporate this colour into your space. One of the best options is through your soft furnishings, such as blinds, curtains, cushions, rugs and throws. This will provide a pop of colour without overwhelming the rest of the room, something that’s very easy for fuchsia to achieve!

A safe and traditional way to use fuchsia would be through a plain or floral print, teaming with neutral shades of white, sand and grey to keep the look more fresh and grounded. This would work particularly well in a bathroom or a living area where you desire a more natural, Scandi or beachy look.

Alternatively, for a bigger statement, look for bold prints that involve the colour. Geometrics, tropicals and Art Deco-inspired designs are all great choices, allowing the shade of fuchsia to make a real impact.

In terms of colour combinations, fuchsia works well alongside a number of different colours. For a more contemporary flavour, try mixing with grey and mustard. For that glamorous 1920s vibe, team with dark blues and metallics. You could also mix fuchsia will other shades of pink, capitalising on the effect of a limited palette (it works beautifully alongside blush pink and coral).

Take a look at some of the designs below for inspiration. As you can see, fuchsia pink works tremendously well in all instances, from the light, bright room designs through to the more sumptuous and maximalist spaces.
