This season, cosy up with autumn tones, creating a warm and welcoming room that you’ll never want to leave.

Everyone loves autumn tones. Shades of warm yellow, pumpkin spice, cranberry and cinnamon are ever appealing, reminding us of crunchy autumn leaves, warm drinks and evenings by the fire. Since they create such a cosy feeling, autumn tones work perfectly in living rooms.

Take inspiration from woodlands and sunsets, choosing soft furnishing fabrics that reflect the red and golden hues of autumn. Shades of green also work beautifully for autumnal interiors, or a deep teals and inky blues, which will work particularly well alongside golden and berry shades. Purple is another colour worth considering, especially in plummy tones. If you tend to lean towards more understated shades, greys and whites can still look autumnal in the right textures and weaves.

Your autumnal fabric choices, which will bring so much warmth and personality to your space, can be incorporated in the form of curtains or blinds to frame the views outside, bring privacy and make your home more thermally efficient, or cushions and throws, which will add new style to your sofa whilst making it even more comfortable for those cosy evenings in.

Autumn inspiration

If you’re keen to introduce patterns into your autumnal space, opt for tartans, leafy prints and stag motifs. These designs will create a traditional feeling, working perfectly alongside your colour palette. Anything that reminds you of the autumn landscape will work well.

When it comes to hard materials, opt for warm woods and brushed metallics, which will complement the fall vibes. For soft textures, choose thick heavy knits and faux furs, amping up the cosiness factor and making your space as comfortable as possible.

You could also bring the smells of autumn into your home with candles and diffusers. Choose sweet and musky scents like vanilla and tobacco, spiced amber and pumpkin chai. Don’t overlook the impact of flowers, either. Autumn is the perfect time to treat yourself to a bouquet of dried blooms, which tie in beautifully with your new theme, and they last forever. You could also add fun touches like wreaths (not just for Christmas!) and baskets (perfect for storing your much-needed cosy blankets).
